Family Program

At Kansas Drug Rehabilitation, we recognize that when an individual is struggling with an addiction or behavioral health disorder, his or her family members, including significant others, are considerably affected as well. For this reason, and to ensure the overall success of our patients, we believe that family involvement is critical to the recovery process. In order to encourage optimal family involvement, we offer a Family Program that is designed to assist patients and family members in identifying problems that have had significant impact on the family system. Additionally, this program will work to change attitudes and, ultimately, behaviors between family members and patients, as well as clarify their role as healthy, supportive figures.

Participation in the Family Program is by invitation from the patient and is available for all family members who are aged 18 and over. As soon as the patient completes the invitation list, a family therapist will contact those family members who were invited and send them information regarding the patient’s family week. You will be sent information regarding specific dates and times, what to expect during this program, and will be asked to confirm your participation.

The families of those who are entrusted into our care are given the opportunity to learn about addictions and mental health disorders, discuss issues that have involved and concerned them for many years, and begin to heal together. Furthermore, family members are provided with an opportunity to learn the skills needed to work through their own issues, develop self-care techniques, and learn how to support their loved one. Family week is often life-changing because it is a time where relationships can begin to mend from confusion, hurt, and misunderstandings.

Throughout the duration of this program, therapists model and teach new communication skills which provide patients and their family members with a means of learning how to change behaviors and enhance the healing process. A couple’s workshop provides an opportunity for all couples in the Family Program to tend to their relationship issues and to receive educational and therapeutic support for recovery. Additionally, a family therapist works with all family members, providing support and education specific to the patient’s issues. During afternoon sessions, the family group will include the patient, the patient’s process group members, and a primary therapist. When deemed necessary, the family therapist may provide individual counseling and will include other clinical staff if appropriate. Upon the completion of the Family Program, continuing care recommendations are given to family members to support their ongoing recovery.

Family Involvement

Because friends, family members, and other loved ones are considerably affected by the types of disorders that we treat, we know that their participation is an essential component of successful long-term recovery. At Kansas Drug Rehabilitation, family members of our clients have the opportunity to learn about addictions and mental health disorders, discuss issues that have involved them for many years, and heal together.

By Invitation Only

The Family Program is by invitation from the patient. It is provided for family members ages 18 and over and is included in the cost of treatment (excluding travel and accommodations). As soon as the patient completes the invitation list, a family therapist will contact those invited and send information regarding the patient’s family week. You will be given dates and times, information about what to expect, and will be asked to confirm your participation. We encourage you to NOT make any travel plans until you receive an invitation from a Kansas Drug Rehabilitation family therapist. If you anticipate an invitation to the Family Program, please allow up to 10 days after the patient’s admission.
